Ron Ben Israel styled wedding cake

A few months ago I posted about my exeperiance in Ron Ben Israel's master class for wedding cakes.
You can check it out here

I also told you how I've finished my mockup / fake wedding cake using his guidelines to create an amazing wedding cake.

At first I really didn't know what to do with it because my cake studio has no more space to keep extra mockup cakes.

So, when I told the guys at "touch food" (the boutique food chain, where I teach cake decorating) that I created a special cake and I kindda don't have a spot for it they begged me to bring it to the store....
I was total for it, and to show their gratitude, they even built a special shelf, just for the cake.

Gladly that cake is proudly presented and has many good effects-I get more cake orders and more classes. That cake does so much work for me!

(for all of you that do this for a living or just a part time, I truly recommend placing a fake cake at a local bakery or event hall, along with your contact information in order to boost orders!)

So here is my very own first version of a wedding cake with Ron Ben Israel's roses, actually I made all the flowers, but they were created based on Ron's excellent methods. in addition you can see I added a vareity of flowers, many of them based on Ron's methods as well.

Tada!

sugar flowers: peony, sweet pea, jasmin, lisianthus

the orange sugar flower you can't see from this angel, is the Poppy

2nd part from Ron Ben Israel's master class Sugar flowers!

(Sorry it took me so long- s many unplanned things interrupted... ) So without further ado-
I really have to start with a SCOOP! Ron Ben Israel is practicing his dance moves once again and has been seen dancing with a partner, Decmber 2010, in Israel!
I obviously can't leave you with just that so here are the photos to prove my scoop:

Returning to the dance floor?

I actually have a few more,  but I think these will do...

If you're wondering what Ron was doing, he was actually explaining the form of his sugar rose, and how the leaves entwine together.

Ron dusting the roses- 1st the cornflour and then the colors, this prevents color stains, a great solution for a big dusting problem.

In this photo you can see Ron's hands working on a sweet pea sugar bud.
The great thing about the sweet pea he taught us, was theamazing all-in-1 cutter.

I created many sweet pea sugar flowers for cakes, such as you can see in this sweet pea fairy cake, but they take soooo long to do, especially considering that it's a rather simple flower, that's suppose to be a filler flower in bouquets.
you can probably imagine how happy I was to learn that each flower will only take me about 5 minutes, from now on!

Ron also showed us how to finalize the poppy sugar flower, I never considered it to be used for cakes, because the poppies we have here are cultivated and therefore much smaller and less interesting (to me, anyway) - here you can what I would usually see in nature:

In the following photos, you can the poppies Ron Ben Israel taught us- which are based on the cultivated poppy flower, they are truly impressive and stunning!

(in the photos you can Ron's flowers of course...)

And last, but not least, Ron taught us how to create a sugar flower called Lisianthus. I have a special place in my heart for that flower because at my wedding, the center pieces on the tables included roses and lisianthus flowers. They are actually very easy to create, which is great because they can totally be the main flower in a bouquet or just laid down on a cake. they come in many colors and have a great look. unfortunately I didn't get any good photos from this one so you'll just have to wait to see my finalized demo cake.
Time was very short so we didn't get to do much regarding decorating the cake, during the class; But I took it back to my studio and finished the cake. But that's for another post.

WOW Ron Ben Israel's Master class wedding cake decorating

As I told you just a week ago (time flies!) I went to a 2-day cake (or should I say flower) workshop-master class with Ron Ben Israel.

The class was hosted by Satin Ice (sugar and gum paste) because bringing Ron Ben Israel to Israel is very costly and no one cake decorator could pull that off. and I assure you many have tried.

First, I have to admit I had a lot of fun! When you're busy all day with brides, grooms and creating wedding cakes, taking a break to learn new and exciting things is so great!
Living in Israel (and I'm not bitching about it) but we are secluded when it comes to having cake masters teach us new stuff, but that's for another post...

So Ron was finally here and felt free enough to ask us to call him Ron (very normal and common in Israel+ he is a former Israeli ) rather then Chef Ron etc'.
We had 2 very very busy days:
Day 1- We learned how to create his beautiful JFK roses. Ron told us that when he learned cake decorating with the master Ms. Betty VanNordsrand see encouraged each of her students to find their "rose", so he did just that, and found the JFK roses to be his personal favorite.

we learned how to create sugar poppy leafs, that waited along with the sugar poppy flower center, to dry over night (sadly they didn't dry properly due to the rain and very high humidity in the class room)

We learned  how to create a lace design using real lace, with a pasta machine.

We also learned how to create dots on a cake with royal icing, we actually had a romantic class... because the power went off at that point( it was one of the biggest storms ever, rain, and hail trees falling and stuff, while we were all cozy inside)

Here Ron is telling us a spooky story...on how royal icing dots won't turn into dots if you don't flatten their tips.

Gotta go now, I'll add the second half of Ron Ben Israel's Master class tomorrow.
